Compete USA
Competition isn’t just about winning the gold medal. It’s a chance to show off your skills, receive feedback to further improve and drive competitive spirit. Compete USA events promote a fun, introductory competitive experience for the beginner skater. Open to all beginning skaters who are current members of Learn to Skate USA and/or U.S. Figure Skating, Compete USA provides a positive opportunity to compete at the grassroots level.
Compete USA welcomes skaters from Snowplow Sam and basic skills to Aspire 4 and adult 1-6. Competitions can offer a variety events, including free skate, showcase, Theatre On Ice and even speed skating and hockey events. There are no more than six competitors in each group, and all six receive an award. Read the Compete USA Manual to find more information on levels, events offered and requirements.
advanced levels
Excel
Excel is an opportunity for skaters to continue testing and develop their skills while showcasing their strengths at events. Available at nonqualifying competitions, including designated Excel Series competitions, Excel free skates consist of required elements different from the standard track to help boost skaters’ strengths.
At the Excel preliminary plus, pre-juvenile plus, juvenile plus, intermediate plus, novice, junior and senior levels, the top skaters per section will earn an invitation to compete in the Excel Series Final. Skaters at the excel aspire through preliminary levels receive an open invitation to compete in the final.
teenagers
High School Competitions
Similar to intercollegiate team skating, U.S. Figure Skating’s high school program offers skaters the opportunity to compete on a team for their high school. Several states host a series of competitions and a state final. U.S. Figure Skating is currently working towards offering the inaugural High School Sectional Finals in the East Coast, Midwest, and Pacific Coast in the Spring of 2024. This opportunity will be open to any high school team registered with U.S. Figure Skating.
college-age
Collegiate Competitions
Skating doesn’t end after high school, and U.S. Figure Skating provides collegiate members options, resources and more to help promote the growth of figure skating at the collegiate levels. There are currently more than 75 schools with intercollegiate skating programs and more than 45 synchronized skating teams representing universities across the country.
adults
Adult Competitions
Whether you’re an adult making your first foray into skating or picking up again after previous experience, U.S. Figure Skating’s Adult Skating program provides adults of all skill levels with the opportunity to enjoy and participate in figure skating via Learn to Skate USA, Compete USA, the adult qualifying structure and more.
